Training at Wettenhalls is more than just assuring we have licenced drivers in our vehicles – Our Training Team ensure our people are best prepared and trained for the tasks they are performing.

From day one, our employees begin their training and are empowered with the tools to ensure their safety on-the-job.

Prospective Drivers are assessed through in-cabin drive assessments for Wettenhalls to identify where in the business they are best suited and what additional skills they may require.  It is here that the planning of a Wettenhalls career pathway is started.

Good Drivers are polished into Great Drivers through individual support sessions, targeted training and annual reviews that finesse driving skills in:

• Specialised tasks
• Career pathway from Rigid trucks to B-Doubles
• Economical and eco-friendly driving.
• Road manners and Etiquette

From inductions to safe work procedures to role specific training, we are committed to ensure our people are trained for the task.

Competency-Based Training

First and foremost, Wettenhalls training focuses on the worker as an individual; building real-world tangible skill improvement.

Our Competency-based training is a method of training which develops the skills, knowledge and attitudes required to achieve competency.  Our Training Team assess competency as the consistent application of knowledge and skill to the standard of performance required in the workplace.

Verification of Competency (VoC) measures and assess the standards of performance required in our workplaces. Examples of these units include:

• Safe Forklift Operation
• Safe Tipper Operation

Technology in Training

Our world class Training Team supports the competency-based training roll out with the Wettenhalls Driver Academy – Driver Simulator Training Program.

This is the most modern capability like this in Australia and we are the only transport company in Australia who have integrated a simulator into its driver training program to this extent.

Our state of the art L3 Simulator is mobile so can be transported to wherever it is needed.

The Training Team deliver a simulated driving experience proven to change behaviour.

Our drivers “live through” real life consequences of driving distracted or not anticipating the hazards of today’s road conditions.  They are immersed in a personal experience and live through the consequences of their driving decisions.

The virtual environments (sceneries) are adapted to the specific customer environments where they apply and support our drivers in:

• Hazard Recognition
• Combatting Distracted Driving Problem, and
• Risk Mitigation Decision making
