On the road to a greener future 20/11/2009 04:58pm
As one of Australia’s leading national providers of fully integrated ‘end to end’ logistics services, the Wettenhalls Group takes its environmental, and indeed all compliance responsibilities very seriously.
In 2007 the Federal Government introduced the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting System (NGERS). The system is designed to measure the carbon footprint of the nation’s largest energy users with an annual electricity bill above $800,000, a gas bill above $600,000, or a company that uses 200,000 litres of diesel.
With a rapidly expanding fleet over 180 trucks, across 14 sites nationally, the Wettenhalls Group certainly falls into this category.
To ensure that Wettenhalls is operating efficiently and responsibly, we have taken a national CO2-e and energy audit in accordance with NGERS guidelines, including a carbon footprint calculation per state. We have been given a big green tick and are fully compliant under the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007.
The NGERS officially kicks off in 2011, however as part of our real and practical commitment to “Keep Moving Forward”, we have developed our own rigorous environmental strategy. This identifies key issues and opportunities across the entire Group. We are well on the way to achieving our ambitious targets. The purchase of this LNG powered truck is a shining example of our determination to make an environmental difference.
We are determined to explore and develop new environmentally sound programs and technology. We are a foundation member of Eco-Drive, and whilst we already run a modern fleet, with an average age of only 2.6 years, we will soon be introducing LNG powered vehicles.
Further to this, 2010 will see the completion of our 'Hub of Excellence', a showcase facility being built to the highest Ecologically Sustainable Design (ESD) standards, on which all future Wettenhall sites will be based upon.
Wettenhalls prides itself on complete compliance with all Federal and State legislation and regulation, including NGERS, HACCP, Mass Management and Driver Basic Fatigue. We avoluntarily meet various industry based Code of Conducts and Best Practice. And we will continue to strive and move forward, ensuring we are not only one of the largest, but also the most responsible service providers in the country.
