As part of our commitment to 'keep moving forward' Wettenhalls is pleased to announce several key developments in our environmental strategy. At the very core of our recent innovations is the planned Wettenhalls 'Hub of Excellence', a showcase facility that will be built to the highest Ecologically Sustainable Design (ESD) standards.
This new Wettenhalls hub, to be completed in 2010, will be the model that all future Wettenhalls sites will be based upon. From water-harvesting techniques to lighting, air-flow and construction materials, every element has been carefully considered and designed to ensure the smallest possible environmental impact whilst improving safety and processing within our warehouse.
Our commitment to the environment certainly doesn't end there. Wettenhalls is a Foundation Partner of Eco-Drive, a research body determined to find more efficient ways of running transport fleets. Other partners in Eco-Drive include Mercedes Benz, Border Express and Linfox and early trials of the program have already shown a 12% reduction in fuel costs and CO2 emissions.
Eco-Drive is expected to become Industry Best Practice in non-technological carbon management and efficiency, with State and Federal Government both fully supporting the initiative.
Along-side the Eco-Drive program, we maintain one of the newest fleets in the country, with an average age of just 2.6 years, and we operate that fleet to strict standards; 83% of our fleet meets Euro 3 engine fitted and all new vehicles are Euro 5 engine specified. We also maintain strict maintenance and workshop procedures to minimise waste and improve efficiency.
