Goodman Fielder Rollout 22/04/2009 01:53pm

In November last year Wettenhalls won the contract for the line haul transport for Goodman Fielder in NSW. This was to be the single largest roll out in Wettenhalls / Amezdroz history. The new contract has seen our company expand by 25 vehicles and close to 60 new staff members in 4 new depots; Moorebank, Tamworth, Newcastle and Canberra. We now handle close to half a million loaves of bread every day, 7 days a week.

The Tamworth section of the contract came on line 6 months ahead of schedule, with only 3 days notice before the commencement date. Operationally this caused some huge challenges, including sourcing 6 prime movers and trailers, together with drivers. To assist in the roll out, we had help from some of our company drivers and friends from Victoria, ACT and as far away as Kalgoorlie WA. The drivers gave up family and friends at short notice and came across to be posted in places like Tamworth, Newcastle and of course Sydney. It is these drivers that need our praise. Their professionalism and attitudes while working under some of the most frustrating and trying conditions is something our company can be proud of.

The Sydney section of the contract came on line of the 16th November. This included more than 12 new vehicles and over 30 additional full time and casual staff for the seven day a week operation. A number of the new drivers were ex Goodman Fielder company drivers who transferred there employment across to Wettenhalls, whilst others come from a variety of Sydney based transport companies to Wettenhalls. After some initial teething problems with the specialised and unique Goodman Fielder mezz deck trailers, all the drivers have settled in and are performing well.

On any given day, you may see a Wettenhalls truck delivering fresh bread in towns across NSW including cities and towns such as Sydney, Newcastle, Nowra, Canberra, Wagga, Orange, Dubbo, Moree, Armidale.
